What is EuroJackpot?

EuroJackpot is one of Europe's largest transnational lottery games, operated across 18 participating countries including Poland, Germany, Finland, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Launched in April 2012, it has grown to offer jackpots starting at €10 million that can roll over to a hard cap of €120 million. Poland joined the EuroJackpot family through Totalizator Sportowy, the state-owned operator of all licensed lotteries in the country.

The game's pan-European prize pool is what sets it apart from purely domestic lotteries. Because players across 18 countries all contribute to the same pot, jackpots accumulate quickly during rollover periods. In 2022 the format was modernised: draws moved from once to twice weekly, and the jackpot cap was raised from €90 million to €120 million. You can check the official EuroJackpot website for the latest jackpot amount before each draw.

How to play

Playing EuroJackpot is straightforward. On your ticket, you select:

  • 5 main numbers from a pool of 1 to 50
  • 2 Euro numbers from a separate pool of 1 to 12

You can choose your own numbers or request a Quick Pick (losowanie komputerowe), where the terminal generates a random selection for you. Either approach gives you exactly the same mathematical odds — the machine has no preference and no memory of previous draws.

A single standard play costs €2 (approximately 8.50–9 zł at typical exchange rates). You can also play multiple panels on one ticket, or use system entries that cover multiple combinations at once — useful if you want to guarantee matching certain numbers while varying others.

The 12 prize tiers

Unlike simpler domestic lotteries, EuroJackpot rewards 12 different combinations of matched numbers. This means you can win even if you only match a few numbers:

  • Tier 1 (Jackpot): 5 main + 2 Euro — odds 1 in 139,838,160
  • Tier 2: 5 main + 1 Euro — odds 1 in 6,991,908
  • Tier 3: 5 main + 0 Euro — odds 1 in 3,107,515
  • Tier 4: 4 main + 2 Euro — odds 1 in 621,503
  • Tier 5: 4 main + 1 Euro — odds 1 in 31,076
  • Tier 6: 4 main + 0 Euro — odds 1 in 13,812
  • Tier 7: 3 main + 2 Euro — odds 1 in 14,126
  • Tier 8: 2 main + 2 Euro — odds 1 in 985
  • Tier 9: 3 main + 1 Euro — odds 1 in 707
  • Tier 10: 3 main + 0 Euro — odds 1 in 314
  • Tier 11: 1 main + 2 Euro — odds 1 in 128
  • Tier 12: 2 main + 1 Euro — odds 1 in 49

The most commonly won tier is Tier 12 (2+1), which pays a fixed €5 prize with odds of approximately 1 in 49. Even matching 3 main numbers and no Euro numbers (Tier 10, odds 1 in 314) pays a prize, making EuroJackpot more rewarding for near-misses than many comparable lotteries. The overall probability of winning any prize in EuroJackpot is approximately 1 in 26.

Draws and deadlines

Draws take place twice per week — every Tuesday and Friday at 21:00 CET in Helsinki, Finland. In Poland, ticket sales typically close approximately 60 minutes before the draw. If you purchase online through lotto.pl or the Lotto mobile app, the cut-off time is displayed in the interface and may occasionally differ during peak periods.

Results are published immediately after draw verification on our EuroJackpot results page, on the official EuroJackpot website, and on the Totalizator Sportowy channels. The verification process is typically complete within minutes of the draw closing.

Where to buy tickets in Poland

EuroJackpot tickets are available through three main channels in Poland:

  • Lotto retail outlets — over 17,000 authorised Totalizator Sportowy points across Poland, identifiable by the distinctive Lotto branding. These include newsagents, petrol stations, and dedicated lottery kiosks.
  • lotto.pl — the official online platform, which requires account registration and age verification. Online play offers the convenience of auto-play subscriptions, which enter you in consecutive draws without needing to repurchase each time.
  • Lotto mobile app — available for iOS and Android, the app links to your lotto.pl account and allows ticket purchase, result checking, and account management.

You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a lottery ticket in Poland. Retailers are required to ask for ID if there is any doubt about a buyer's age.

Checking your ticket

After each draw, you can verify your ticket through multiple channels. The quickest method is scanning the barcode at any Lotto terminal — the machine instantly confirms whether you have won and the prize amount. You can also check manually against the published results, use the Lotto mobile app's scan function, or use our free number checker tool.

For online purchases through lotto.pl, winning tickets are automatically detected and notifications are sent to your registered email address. Small prizes below the retail threshold are typically credited directly to your online account balance.

Rollovers and the €120M cap

When no ticket matches all 7 numbers in a draw, the jackpot rolls over to the next draw and increases by the amount that would otherwise have been paid to the jackpot tier. This creates the spectacular multi-week rollover runs that EuroJackpot is known for, during which jackpots can climb from €10 million into the tens of millions.

Once the jackpot reaches the €120 million cap, it is frozen at that amount. If no one wins the jackpot at the cap in a given draw, the prize money rolls down to the next highest winning tier (Tier 2), which can produce very large second-prize payouts. This “must-be-won” mechanism ensures the prize pool is always eventually distributed. You can calculate estimated after-tax prize amounts for any jackpot level using our jackpot calculator.

Syndicates

A syndicate pools money from multiple players to buy more tickets collectively, improving the group's overall odds proportionally. A group of 20 people each contributing €2 can buy 20 tickets, giving the syndicate a 20-in-139-million chance rather than 1-in-139-million. Any prize is divided equally among members.

Workplace and friend-group syndicates are extremely common in Poland. If you are running a syndicate, our syndicate calculator can help you work out contribution amounts, ticket counts, and hypothetical prize splits. Always agree the terms in writing before the first draw to avoid disputes.

Responsible play

The expected financial return on a €2 EuroJackpot ticket is less than €2 — lottery operators run at a profit, and the house always has a mathematical edge. Set a fixed weekly budget for lottery play and treat it as entertainment spending, not investment. Never chase losses or spend money you cannot afford to lose.

If lottery play is affecting your finances, relationships, or mental health, free support is available in Poland through the Fundacja Pomocy Osobom Uzależnionym od Hazardu and the national helpline. Playing should always be an enjoyable, affordable pastime.
